Kati Thanda / Lake Eyre

Kati Thanda / Lake Eyre is Australia’s largest salt lake, located in remote South Australia.  At infrequent intervals, rainfall across North East Australia will fall, flooding the region and flowing into the Lake.  The floodwaters will turn the vast dry salt expanse into an inland sea, attracting birds and wildlife in an astonishing natural phenomenon.

One and two day tours to the Lake depart from our bases at:

Rawnsley Park Station (located on the South side of Wilpena Pound, in the heart of South Australia’s Flinders Ranges).

Ceduna, located on South Australia’s Far West Coast.

Book your window seat now to see for yourself.

From our customers

I have earned the trust and satisfaction from hundreds of customers, all over the country, by providing reliable, high-quality service. Check out what they reckon!

The varied landscapes were amazing with excellent commentary to go with it. We did the full Monty experience to include north and south lake Eyre (Kati Thanda). The water levels were extensive so got to see a variety of bird flocks. Felicity is obviously a very experienced pilot who made us feel welcome and safe throughout the flight. She was enthusiastic and engaging and her experience showed with her knowledge of this unique area.

Kati Thanda flight from RPS

We had the privilege of flying with Felicity today on the full-day scenic flight from Rawnsley Park Station over Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre (both the southern and northern regions), with lunch at William Creek Hotel and a spectacular flight over the Painted Hills.Felicity is an exceptional pilot who inspired complete confidence throughout our day journey. Just as impressive was her extensive knowledge of the region’s geology, history and Indigenous heritage, which transformed an already breathtaking flight into a great learning experience. Her passion for the outback is evident, and her commentary added enormous depth to everything we saw below. This was definitely the highlight of our visit to the Flinders Ranges; a once in a lifetime adventure. We cannot recommend Chinta Air highly enough, and if you have the opportunity to fly with Felicity, you are in the very best hands.

Chinta Air - not to be missed!

We did the full day trip from Rawnsley to Lake Eyre with the northern lake and Painted Hills as extra additions. Our pilots were extremely knowledgeable and provided an interesting, insightful commentary throughout the flight and a walk around William Creek. They certainly went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and were well informed about our flight, the scenery and history - facts about the land, towns and places we flew over. The scenery was incredible! To see the outback and Lake Eyre from the air, truly gives you a perspective of just how vast and unique our landscape is. Seeing it with so much water and 'green' was an added bonus. Thankyou Chinta Air and staff for a truly memorable day out.
